The preponderance of Economic Reports this morning have managed to keep from damaging trader's expectations. None of the reports came in catastrophically bad, and the Philly Fed actually beat expectations a little. I'm not looking for the Moon out of the current upswing, but it may hold for another day or two. Still, I'm scaling out of some of my positions as this swing continues to fight along.
11:40 am MT: I stopped out of the GS calls for a 35% loss. I took some more profits on the FWLT calls, which are a 31% gain so far. I am looking to some of my profit on COH if it hits 38.00, and NYX and VZ look pretty good so far. STP is a little fussy, but I have seen these kind of breakout tests before, as long as it holds support I'll stay with it. I did pick up a half-size position on AXP when it crossed the 50.20 area. Since then it has collapsed back down a little. I will only pick up another half on a close above 50.50 - 50.75.
1:45 pm MT: I took some more profits on the FWLT calls, which are now a 42% gain so far.
7:15 pm MT: The market overcame the Shooting Star sell-off from late in the day yesterday. This is a nice little bullish sign for the next several weeks. It may mean that we still have a day or two in the current upswing, and that we may get a higher low on the next pullback. There was no single catalyst for the buying, which is actually a good thing. Traders are staying bullish, and therefore the market is staying Intermediate Term Bullish. High Energy and Commodity prices may eventually catch up to the market, but traders are buying for now, which means that they may keep buying on and off throughout the next several weeks.
I am looking at calls on all of the following stocks for tomorrow: LUK (breakout), RIG (bounce), and DO (bounce). In addition I am going to pick up NOV if it bounces, and I may pick up one or two of the following: JCP, VMW, and FMCN. I don't want too much stuff at one time, but I want enough in case this swing goes another day or two.

Dwight,
ReplyDeleteAreyou still staying away from energy? I have been looking at VLO for put entry. Any thoughts?
Claudia,
ReplyDeleteI picked a little at VLO when it looked to be forming the shooting star at close of market yesterday. I bought into a full position when it flagged this morning.
Bob
Hunter Strikes Again!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I've got my order in for NYX June 75 @ 2.07. Someone comes in 5 mins. after I'm filled and sells 45K shares....cool!!!
Holding on again
Happy Trading,
Gary
Picked up some NOV again. I'm 20/30 centing this one to death. Looked like a decent entry today at the close, so, I took it. Any comments...anyone anyone?? I think V is everywhere but where I want it to be.
ReplyDeleteGary
Claudia and Bob: VLO is on my put list, I haven't played it yet, but it is definitely on the list.
ReplyDeleteBob,
ReplyDeleteRe VLO - You definately timed your entry much better than I did - I waited for a break of 47 and got in minutes before the run up , hence, the low of the day - 1:40. sEEMS TO BE A CONTINOUS THEME LATELY. To make things worse I got OUT of my QQQQ call at 10:10am what I thought was the break of a flag. Am still in VLO. Are you still in SNDK? Be careful with the options on this one. I got stopped out yesterday despite the stock opening up higher because I set my stop to take me out at mark instead of STD - willnever do that again.
Dwight,
ReplyDeleteon your short term ( few days) swing trades, are you still purchasing June or are you going out to July?
Hi Claudia,
ReplyDeleteI'm still in VLO w/stop just above $48.00 It sure looked like it was going to roll today.
SNDK - I have 1 of 4 contracts left. Sold the 3rd at $33.00 just before the close. Using the target Dwight mentioned in VC, I floated the order and sold based on the theo price rather than the mark.
Sorry about your Q's. Since Dwight mentioned the market tanking was caused by AAPL yesterday, I kept that stock on one of my grid charts all day. I was ready to take profits/or cut losses on all my positions at a moment's notice. As mentioned in VC today, I actually swing traded it when the hourly bar hammered and confirmed.
Good luck Claudia (and to all).
Dwight,
ReplyDeleteSold AKAM Wednesday at 39.50 before VC. Maybe a day early, but I'm thinking about re-entering the trade at a test (morning bull flag)of 39.50. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Gary
Claudia: I'm still trading June. Next Monday I start trading July options.
ReplyDeleteBob: nice job on SNDK.
Gary: your AKAM exit is just fine. You will always have trades that don't hit the max profit. AKAM may have another day or so in the swing, but watch your back because the swing is getting a little long in the tooth.
SNDK - anyone still in should know it was downgraded this morning
ReplyDeleteSNDK - anyone still in should know it was downgraded this morning
ReplyDeleteGary, Bob, Claudia, Jeremy, and everyone at the Dwight A. Gang,
ReplyDeleteSince the theme is animals...What horse is everyone riding today?
I'm riding COP for a short term swing play - with a tight stop.
I have 2 support lines drawn at $88.77 and 89.50.
I liked the way the stocastics and Macd looked and it was headed towards the tip of the bollinger band.
Apparently it's commodity day again..bye all! ~ denise ~
I'm not on a horse today. It's been a rough couple days. I wasn't able to get into anything at close yesterday and everything seemed like it took off so fast this morning I figured it was too late for me to chase the energy stocks for fear of them coming back down after I bought in. Right now I'm holding ADBE, NOV, and V. Got stopped out of my AXP and NYX.
ReplyDeleteDenise and gang,
ReplyDeleteTo follow the horse/animal theme, I dismounted COH and VLO for small losses. Took partial profits in NEM (up 47% so far). Took total profits in SNDK (+34.8%)
And nibbled at the trough of LUK and NOV on pullbacks. Waiting to see if they hold the gaps or fall in.
So in total, I'm riding 1 1/2 positions.
Hi All,
ReplyDeleteXTO looks like it broke/breaking out of it's symmetrical triangle today
Good volume on XTO.
ReplyDeleteUPL broke a flag w/volume too.
Denise: nice with the COP trade.
ReplyDeleteJeremy: you are riding the trades correctly, cull the ugly stuff and ride the winners.
Bob: same story as Jeremy, nice job of moving around and riding and culling as you go.
Claudia: good eyes on XTO, I picked up a little position in that myself.
